For Life
2003.04.21

Hello! We hope you had a fine weekend. Perhaps you spent some time in the beauty of the wild outdoors? If you did, then you should be all ready for this second week of our series celebrating Earth Day 2003!

Earth-Friendly Idea #5: The cheapest form of heating and cooling - and the gentlest on the planet - is a change of clothes. If you're too cold, try putting on that thick turtleneck sweater before turning up the heat. If you're too hot, why not get comfortable in a pair of shorts and a T-shirt rather than switching on the air conditioner?

Today's LessonCATEGORY: Problem Vocabulary
WILDLIFE   野生生物

Explanation

  • Wildlife means animals, birds, and plants living freely in a natural environment.

    Be careful:
Wildlife is uncountable, so we do NOT say "a wildlife" or "wildlifes".

  • wildlife は、自然界に生息している動物や鳥、自生している植物全体をさす言葉です。

    注意:
    wildlife は数えられない名詞です。ですから a wildlife や wildlifes とは言いません。

examples

  1. We saw some spectacular wildlife in East Africa. The elephants and cheetahs were my favorite.
  2. There's an awful lot of wildlife in those mountains. It would be a great place to take school children on nature hikes.
  3. I'm going to an exhibition of photographs of Hokkaido wildlife this evening.

It was great being with you today!
