Explanation

  • To back or back up a vehicle is to move it backwards (= opposite the direction it is facing).
  • 車を後ろの方向に進める、という意味で back  または back up  を使います。

examples

  1. (arriving at a friend's house)
    a: Where should I park?
    b: Just back the car into the driveway.
  2. Always turn around and look behind you when you back up. Don't rely on the rear-view mirror.
