For Life
2004.04.05

Welcome to the first full week of April, a month of new beginnings! Students start school again, new college graduates get their first taste of life in the "real" world, and the natural world is busy preparing for all the challenges and opportunities of the warm months. We'll take up each of these themes in the coming weeks.

We begin in the workplace, and for the next few days we'll look at words that every employer hopes apply to his new employees!

Today's Lesson
IMPRESSION    印象

Explanation

  • An impression  is the way a person, place, etc. looks or seems to you.

If, for example, you "get a good impression"  OF someone, then you think well of him because of the way he looks or seems to you.

If you "make a good impression"  ON someone, then he thinks well of you because of the way you look or seem to him.
  • impression  は、ある人にとって、他の人や場所などがどのように目に映るかということ、つまり、印象という意味です。

    例えば、get a good impression  OF someone は、誰かから良い印象を受ける、という意味です。

make a good impression  ON someone は、誰かに良い印象を与える、という意味です。
