For Life
2004.05.27

Hi! If there's anything a person can complain about when on an exotic holiday, I guess this would be it. Just when you should be making the most of life, all you want to do is sleep. Oh well, at least you can enjoy the nightlife when you wake up!

Today's Lesson
JET LAG    時差ボケ

Explanation

  • Jet lag  is the feeling of tiredness you experience after a long flight to a place where the time is much earlier or later than the place you came from.
  • jet lag  は、何時間も時差がある地域から飛行機で移動してきた後に感じる倦怠感、つまり、時差ボケのことです。

examples

  1. Whenever I go home, I have to take an 11-hour flight across the Pacific. So I usually get really bad jet lag.
  2. a: Is John still sleeping? It's almost noon!
b: I know. He still has jet lag  after his long flight.
  3. There's only a one-hour difference between Sydney and here, so you don't have to worry about arriving with jet lag.
  4. When you go abroad on business, try to arrive a day or two early so you can get over the jet lag  before you have to start working.

Sleep well!
