For Life
2005.03.09

How're things? We hope that life has been generous with her blessings lately.

Here's your Wednesday edition!

Today's Lesson
EVERY (day) vs. EVERY OTHER (day)   毎(日) vs.(一日)おきに

Explanation

  • every + TIME means regularly at that time. For example, every day, every year, every summer, etc.

every + PERIOD OF TIME means regularly after that period of time. For example, every five minutes, every four hours, every two years, etc.

every other + TIME means regularly, but always after skipping a time. For example, if you do something every other day, you do it on Day 1, but NOT on Day 2, then do it on Day 3, but NOT on Day 4, etc.

例えば、every five minutes は5分ごとに、 every four hours は4時間ごとに、every two years は2年ごとに、という具合です。
