Yesterday we introduced the expression “put on”. Today's WordMaster is usually the reason we put something on for the very first time!

TRY ON 試着する
- To try on an item of clothing is to put it on in order to see how it looks on you and whether it's the right size.
- 洋服などについて try on と言うと、似合うかどうかや、サイズを確かめるためにその服を試しに着てみる、という意味になります。
- a: These are just the shoes I've been looking for!
b: Why don't you try them on and see if they fit? - (to a department store salesperson)
Can I try on this dress to see how it looks? - CUSTOMER: Where can I try this on?
SALESPERSON: The dressing rooms are over there.
We'd be honored if you would try us on again tomorrow! We think you'll find us a perfect fit!
