Explanation

  • The Chinese zodiac is the set of 12 animals (or “signs”) that are connected with the calendar years in China, Japan, and other parts of the world.

    To say which year it is, use the expression the year of the .... For example, 2006 is the year of the dog.
  • Chinese zodiac とは、中国や日本などの国で暦年と関係のある12種類の動物（signs と呼びます）のことです。

    何年(なにどし)かを言うときには、the year of the ... という表現を使い、たとえば2006年なら the year of the dog となります。

    The English names for the signs of the Chinese zodiac (as used in Japan) are:
