There seem to be a lot of expressions that use “circle” or similar words to talk about groups of people; for example, “circle of friends”, “inner circle”, “band of brothers”, “sphere of influence” - even in Japanese, the word 輪 is used in expressions such as these. Well, here's one more member of this select group!

Explanation

  • To be in the loop means to be one of a limited group of people that get the latest information about something.

    If you are not in the loop, then you are out of the loop.
  • in the loop は、最新の情報を得ることができる限られた人の中に入っている、という状態のことです。

    out of the loop は、その反対の状態を表します。

examples

  1. a: You're golfing with the board of directors again this weekend?
    b: Absolutely. It's the best way to stay in the loop.
  2. Come on! Don't keep me out of the loop. Tell me what's going on.
