Now, about today's WordMaster@Work: In a previous edition we introduced the expression “parent company”. Maybe you're curious about what a company controlled by a parent company is called? If you guessed “child company”, then today's edition is worth a good look!
SUBSIDIARY 子会社
- A subsidiary is a company that is owned or controlled by a larger (parent) company.

We're the parent company to several subsidiaries. One manufactures aircraft engines, and another makes medical equipment. - The company has decided to set up a subsidiary in Singapore.

A&T Small Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of A&T Large Industries, has announced the development of a revolutionary new drug. - If 100% of a subsidiary is owned by its parent company, it's referred to as a “wholly-owned” subsidiary.
