Explanation

  • If a woman changes her family name when she gets married, her previous family name (= her parents' family name) is called her maiden name. Her new family name is called her married name.
  • 女性が、結婚にともなって名字を変えた場合、それまでの名字(つまり、その人の両親の名字)のことを maiden name といいます。結婚後の新しい名字のことは、married name といいます。
