BREAK THE RECORD / SET A RECORD
記録を破る/記録を作る、更新する
- When someone runs faster, jumps higher, scores more points, etc. than anyone else in the past, we say that they break the (old) record and set a (new) record.
- それまでの誰よりも速く走ったり、高く飛んだり、多くの点を取ったりしたとき、break the (old) record((今までの)記録を破る)、set a (new) record((新)記録を作る、更新する)のように言います。
- Have they broken any records at this year's Asian Games so far?
- I think it'll be a long time before anyone breaks the world record for the long jump.
- He set several Olympic and world records during his career.
- The runner set a new world record of 9.77 seconds for the 100 meters.
