Explanation

  • To make eye contact is to look directly at someone's eyes while they are looking directly at yours.
  • eye contact は、相手が自分を見ているときに、相手の目を見つめること、つまり、視線を合わせることです。

examples

  1. (two interviewers)
    a: What did you think of that last candidate?
    b: He didn't seem very confident. He rarely made eye contact during the interview.
  2. I could tell he was feeling guilty about what happened by the way he kept avoiding eye contact with me.
  3. (giving romantic advice)
    If someone maintains eye contact with you for more than a second or two, you can be pretty sure that they're interested in you.
