Warm greetings to you!

This week we've got a sweet set of words to help you talk about what people do when behind the wheel of a car. We start with a word that's the key to a variety of important expressions about driving. So keep your eyes on the road and enjoy the ride!

Today's Lesson
(TRAFFIC) LANE   車線

Explanation

  • A traffic lane is a marked division of a road, wide enough for one line of vehicles and meant to separate those vehicles from other traffic moving in different directions and at different speeds.
  • traffic lane とは、線によって区切られた道路の一部分、つまり、車線のことです。車が縦一列になって通行するのに十分な幅があり、そこを走る車両を、異なる方向や異なる速度の通行から隔てる線です。

examples

  1. Get in the left lane and turn left at the next stoplight.
  2. Always remember to signal before you change lanes.
  3. A new four-lane highway is being built between the city center and the new airport.
  4. Maybe you'd better move into the fast lane? We're supposed to be at the airport in five minutes!
  5. You're not supposed to drive in the bus lane between 7 and 9:30 in the morning.
  6. The police stopped me for driving in the car pool lane without any passengers in the car.
