It's good to see you! Here's a WordMaster to tell your friends about!
SAY vs. TELL 言う vs. 話す
- When say and tell are followed by a full sentence, the patterns used after each word are a little different:
say + that + (FULL SENTENCE)
tell + (PERSON) + that + (FULL SENTENCE)
Be Careful! You must say WHO is spoken to, immediately after the word tell. - say と tell は、後に文が続くとき、そのパターンが若干異なります。
say + that +(主語+動詞)
tell +(人)+ that +(主語+動詞)
注意:tell を使い、誰に向かって言うのかを伝えるときは、tell のすぐ後に(人)を付け加えなければなりません。
- Hugh called to say that he's going to be late.
- (two tourists in Paris getting directions)
PASSERBY: Il faut tourner a gauche au deuxieme feu.
TOURIST 1: What did he say?
TOURIST 2: He said that we should turn left at the second light. - (on the phone)
a: Can I take a message?
b: Just tell her that I called. - Tell the salesman that you're a friend of mine. He'll give you a good deal.
Have a great day!
