2007.06.26(Review of 2003.06.24 edition)
Today we look at the more active cousin of yesterday’s WordMaster. And if you understand what we mean by that, then your English really is getting better!
IT RAINS 雨が降る
- When it rains, drops of water fall from clouds.
Be Careful! We do NOT say “It's rain” (“rain” used as a noun) to mean It rains or It's raining (“rain” used as a verb). - it rains は、水滴が雲から落ちる、つまり、雨が降る、という意味です。
注意:「雨が降る」または、「雨が降っている」という意味で、It's rain. と言うのは間違いです。正しくは It rains. または、It's raining. です。
- a: Is it still raining outside?
b: No, it stopped. - If it rains on Sunday, the school festival will be held indoors.
- It's been raining all day.
- It hasn't rained in weeks.
- It's supposed to rain today, but there's not a cloud in the sky.
- I think it's starting to rain - I felt a drop.
