Explanation

  • The phrase the bargaining table is used in a number of expressions relating to negotiations. This “table” refers to the place where negotiations are held. So, for example, to “sit down at the bargaining table” means to begin negotiations, and to “walk away from the bargaining table” means to quit a negotiation before an agreement has been reached.
  • the bargaining table という語句は、交渉に関する多くの表現に使われています。ここで言う table とは、交渉が行われる場を意味します。例えば、 sit down at the bargaining table は、交渉を開始する、walk away from the bargaining table は、合意に至る前に交渉をやめる、という意味になります。
