2008.02.15(Review of 2002.05.08 edition)
Adam and Eve, Romeo and Juliet, Bonnie and Clyde - when man and woman pair up, sparks fly and sometimes history is even made. Yes, Valentine's Day is over, but love is always worth celebrating!
COUPLE (= two people) 夫婦、恋人同士
- Two people who are married or dating can be called a couple.
Be Careful! The word “avec” is French and is NOT used in English like the Japanese アベック to mean couple. - 結婚している男女、またはつき合っている恋人同士のことを couple と言います。
注意:couple のことを日本語で「アベック」と言うことがありますが、
これはフランス語なので、英語の表現では使いません。
- We met a nice Canadian couple while traveling in Africa.
- The dance floor was full of young couples slow dancing.
- An elderly couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by crossing the United States in a hot air balloon.
- The landlord said he only rents apartments to married couples.
Have a LOVE-ly weekend!
