2008.05.15(Review of 2000.08.09 edition)
Having an “off” day? Well, that's good news because the WordMaster is here to show you how useful “off” can be!
PUT OFF 延期する、先に延ばす
- To put off something is to decide to do it later, instead of sooner or at the planned time.
- put off とは、すぐに、あるいは予定通りに行なうのではなく、後で行うと決めること、つまり、延期する、という意味です。
- Our trip had to be put off for a while because I got sick.
- My grandmother always said, “Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” Maybe that's why she always did her Christmas shopping in October!
- Every year, millions of people put off doing their taxes until the last minute.
Stay well!
