Greetings! We hope you're well and excited about the coming week.
We're going to take a close look at a special tree that's very close to our hearts. In fact, you could say that we're so close to it, we're actually a part of it. We're talking about the family tree, whose branches are our parents, siblings, children, and relatives going back as far as you care to climb. And we'll start the series with a piece of the WordMaster family tree - a review edition from way back in 2003!

- Your father's and mother's parents are your grandparents - your grandmothers and grandfathers.
Their parents are your great-grandparents, whose parents are your great-great-grandparents, etc.
Your children's children are your grandchildren - your grandsons and granddaughters.
Their children are your great-grandchildren, whose children are your great-great-grandchildren, etc.
Be Careful! We usually do NOT call old people in general grandfather or grandmother, like the Japanese おじいさん and おばあさん. - grandparents とは、父や母の両親、つまり、祖母と祖父のことです。祖母は grandmother、祖父は、grandfather と言います。
great-grandparents とは、祖父母の両親のことです。
彼らの両親は great-great-grandparents などと言います。
grandchildren とは、自分の子どもの子ども、つまり、孫のことです。女の子なら granddaughter、男の子なら grandson と言います。
great-grandchildren とは、孫の子ども、曾孫のことです。
彼らの子どもは、great-great-grandchildren などと言います。
注意：歳をとった人のことを日本語では、一般的に「おじいさん」、「おばあさん」と呼びますが、英語では grandfather、grandmother とは言いません。

I can't believe I'm a great-grandmother now! - I was so happy that all of our grandchildren could be there to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary with us.

- She lived to have six great-grandchildren.
