Explanation

  • When someone can't take a phone call because they are out of the office or are somewhere else in the office, you can say that he/she is not at his desk or is away from her desk.
  • 外出やオフィス内の別の場所にいるために、誰かが電話に出られないときは、he/she is not at his/her desk または he/she is away from his/her desk と言うことができます。

examples

  1. (a call to Ms. Billings' office)
    a: May I speak to Ms. Billings, please?
    b: I'm sorry, but she's not at her desk at the moment. Can I take a message?
  2. Feel free to call me on my cell phone if I'm away from my desk.
  3. a: Were you able to contact Robert?
    b: No. He was away from his desk.
