If you don't come at all that day, then you are "absent FROM school/work/etc." - 始業時間に遅れて学校に到着することを late FOR school と言います。 late for work/the meeting/etc. とも言います。
欠席/欠勤することを、absent FROM school/work/etc. と言います。
