Hi! So far this week, we've been talking about vehicles that are a real pleasure to drive (or ride). But not all vehicles are for fun and games. Today we talk about those we rely on when we're in trouble. Thank God they're there when we need them!

Explanation

  • A police car is the car policemen drive while working. It usually has flashing lights on top and a siren.

    Be careful:
    パトカー is Japanese English and comes from the English phrase "patrol car", which is another name for a police car .

    A fire truck is the big truck used by firefighters. It usually has hoses and ladders attached.

    An ambulance is a vehicle that takes sick and injured people to the hospital emergency room. It also has flashing lights and a siren, as well as medical equipment and a place for patients to lie down in the back.
  • police car  は、警察官が仕事中に乗る車、つまりパトカーのことです。普通、車の屋根にはフラッシュライトがついており、サイレンを鳴らすこともできます。

    注意:
    パトカーは、和製英語で、英語の "patrol car" からきています。 police car  のことを "patrol car" と呼ぶこともあります。

    fire truck  は、消防士が使う大型のトラック、つまり消防車のことです。普通、ホースやはしごが装備されています。

    ambulance  は、病人やけが人を病院の救急治療室に運ぶための車、つまり救急車のことです。この車にも、フラッシュライトとサイレンがついています。車内には、医療器具が備えられ、患者が横になるためのスペースが設けられています。
