Explanation

  • Vitamins and minerals are natural substances found in food (but often taken in pills) that the body needs in small amounts in order to function properly and grow. Vitamins are complex substances, such as vitamin C and B12; minerals are simpler substances, such as iron and calcium.

    Be careful:
    In American English, the "vi-" in vitamin rhymes with "bye" not "bit".
