Hello! Did you have a nice weekend? Are you looking forward to the holiday tomorrow? Do you even know what holiday it is tomorrow?

Anyway, this week we're putting on our chef's hat and stepping into the kitchen. It's time to look at words used to talk about cooking.

Here's the first course!

Today's Lesson

Explanation

  • To boil water is to heat it to 100 degrees centigrade.

We can also say "water boils", which means at 100 degrees it bubbles and gas (steam) rises from the surface.

To boil food is to cook it in boiling water.

examples

  2. Child: Mom, your water's boiling.
Mother: Can you turn the heat off for me? I'm on the phone.
  3. When making curry, you should boil the potatoes and carrots first before adding the curry paste.
