Today's Lesson
BLOCKBUSTER / FLOP

Explanation

  • A blockbuster is a movie that is heavily advertised, that everyone is talking about, and that is somewhat of an event. Blockbusters usually cost a lot to make, often use famous actors, have lots of special effects, and tell big, thrilling stories. For all of these reasons, movie studios expect a blockbuster to be very successful at the box office.

A flop is an unsuccessful movie.

examples

  1. In the United States, there are always a few movie blockbusters that open around Memorial Day or the Fourth of July and Christmastime.
  2. Because of the high cost of such movies, if a blockbuster doesn't make at least $100 million, it's considered a flop.

And that's a rap! See you again on Monday!
