Hello! We've worked up an appetite for another edition of Berlitz WordMaster! Won't you join us?
PIECE OF BREAD vs. ROLL パンの1片 vs. ロールパン
- We use the expression a piece of bread to mean part of a loaf of bread that has been cut, sliced, or torn off. We can also say a piece of toast.
A roll is bread that has been baked in a mass small enough for one person, like a small loaf. - piece of bread は、パンを切ったり、スライスしたり、ちぎったりしたものの一片をさします。piece of toast という言い方もあります。
roll は、生地を小さく丸めて焼いたパン、つまり、ロールパンのことです。
- To make French toast, just dip a piece of bread into a mixture of milk and eggs and fry for a few minutes on both sides.
- (a mother to her child at breakfast)
Would you like another piece of toast? - I usually just have a roll and coffee for breakfast.
We don't know about you, but we couldn't eat another bite!
