Good morning and a happy Monday to you! Today's WordMaster@Work topic is a little advanced, and we'd like to begin with a question for you.
Is your car worth as much now as when you bought it? Why not?
DEPRECIATION (n.), DEPRECIATE (v.) 価値の低下(名詞)、 価値が下がる(動詞)
- Depreciation is what happens when things like cars, houses, electronic goods and machines lose part of their value because of age, or use, or even changes in fashion.
- depreciation は、車、家、電化製品、機械などの物の価値が、年数がたった、使用した、はやらなくなった、などの理由で下がることです。
- Because of depreciation my car has lost nearly half its value.
- If you had taken better care of your car, its value wouldn't have depreciated so dramatically.
- I didn't expect my computer to depreciate in value so rapidly.
- Some things, like popular paintings or antiques, never depreciate. They simply continue to grow in value.
Can you think of anything else that's not subject to depreciation?
