ARM vs. HAND   腕 vs. 手 

Explanation

  • An arm  is one of the two long parts of the body that you cover with the sleeves of a long-sleeved shirt.

    A hand  is one of the two parts of the body that you cover with gloves.
  • arm  は、身体の中の2本の長い部分で、長袖の服を着た時に袖で隠れるところ、つまり、腕のことです。

    hand  は、身体の中に2箇所あって、手袋をはめる部分、つまり、手のことです。

examples

  1. My husband's arms  and legs are so long that it's hard to buy clothes for him.
  2. If you stretch your arm  out holding the camera in front of you, you can take a picture of yourself.
  3. (a teacher to her students)
    Raise your hand  if you think you know the answer.  
  4. (a mother to her children)
    Wash your hands  and gargle as soon as you come home.
