If meteor showers are nature's fireworks, then maybe we should call today's WordMaster nature's neon lights -- an immense, rippling ad in the night sky for one of the most exciting shows in the universe!
THE NORTHERN LIGHTS 北半球のオーロラ
- The Northern Lights are wave-like colored lights sometimes seen at night in the most northern parts of the world.
Be careful [1]:
We always say THE Northern Lights.
Be careful [2]:
The phrase the Northern Lights is always plural. We do NOT say "the Northern Light". - the Northern Lights は、色のついた波状の光で、北半球の緯度の高い地域で夜間に見られるもの、つまり、(北半球の)オーロラのことです。
注意[1]:
Northern Lights にはいつも the をつけて THE Northern Lights と言います。
注意[2]:
the Northern Lights は、いつも複数形にします。the Northern Light とは言いません。
- We traveled to Canada last year to see the Northern Lights.
- I don't really understand what causes the Northern Lights, but they sure are beautiful.
- The Northern Lights display last night was so spectacular that it made newspaper headlines.
Come back again tomorrow for another episode of Berlitz WordMaster - STARring the WordMaster himself!
