Explanation

  • To care ABOUT something is to be interested in it or to feel that it is important.

    The verb care can also be followed by words like 'if', 'who', 'what', 'why', etc.
  • "care about + 物" は、その物に関心を示し、それが重要だと感じる――つまり、気にかける、という意味です。

    動詞の care の後ろには、about の他に、if、who、what、why などが来ることがあります。

examples

  1. My boyfriend doesn't care about fashion. Jeans and a T-shirt are all he ever wears. But I don't care. He looks great in whatever he has on.
  2. If you care about the environment, use less and recycle more.
  3. (parents to their child, who's having trouble at school)
    Your teacher didn't come to see us because she's angry with you. She came because she cares about you and wants to help.
  4. (a coach to his football team)
    I don't care what you have to do to win - just WIN!!
  5. (an important man - NOT the Prime Minister - who thinks he should be treated differently from 'ordinary' customers)
    CUSTOMER: Do you know who I am?
    WOMAN AT BOX OFFICE: I don't care if you're the Prime Minister (= I don't care who you are). You'll have to wait in line like everyone else.
