Explanation

  • To put on clothes, glasses, jewelry, etc. is to PLACE them on your body.

    To wear clothes, glasses, jewelry, etc. is to already HAVE them on your body.
  • put on は、服やめがね、宝石などを身に付ける(動作)という意味です。

    wear は、服やめがね、宝石などを身に付けている(状態)という意味です。

examples

  1. I'm just going to put on a sweater, then we can go.
  2. My three-year-old daughter still isn't able to put on socks by herself.
  3. a: Which one is Michiko?
    b: She's the one wearing the light blue dress.
  4. Do they let you wear casual clothes at the office?
  5. a: What are you wearing to the party?
    b: I was thinking of wearing my blue dress and pearl necklace.
