2005.06.14(Review of 2000.12.13 edition)
Hello! Take a look at today's topic. Wouldn't it be interesting to add up all the hours of your life you've spent waiting there? Scary thought, isn't it?
(train) PLATFORM (駅の)ホーム
- The flat place next to the tracks where you wait for a train is called the platform.
Be Careful! In English, there is no short form of the word platform similar to the Japanese「ホーム」. - platform は、電車を待つためにある線路の横にある平らな場所、つまり、駅のホームのことです。
注意:英語では、日本語の「ホーム」のように、platform という言葉を短縮することはできません。
- The trains were running late, so it was more crowded on the platform than usual.
- The train to Boston will be leaving from Platform 8.
- I'll meet you at the Shinjuku end of the platform at 7:30.
- Non-passengers have to buy a platform ticket if they want to go to the tracks.
The next WordMaster Express will arrive this time tomorrow. Don't miss it!
