Explanation

  • To bid (v.) is to offer to buy something - or to do a piece of work - for a particular price.

    A bid (n.) is the offer (price) itself.
  • 動詞の bid は、ある価格で何かを購入することを申し出る-もしくはある仕事をすることを申し出る-という意味です。

    名詞の bid は、その申し出(価格)のことです。

examples

  1. A wealthy collector bid $200,000 at a recent Hollywood auction for the necklace worn by Starlett O'Hara in the classic movie “Gone With the Window Dresser”.
  2. We put in a bid of $4 million for the company, but we lost to a higher bid.
  3. Half a dozen construction companies submitted bids for the prestigious project. The project went to Acropolis Construction, which had made the lowest bid.
