... and as the years roll by, the child becomes a man or woman. Unless, of course, you own a vacation home in Neverland next door to Peter Pan!
- To grow up is to become an adult.
To say that someone grew up IN (for example) Osaka, means that they lived in Osaka when they were a child.
Be Careful! We usually use the expression grow up only to talk about people or animals. Plants, cities, etc. GROW; they do not grow UP.
- a: What do you want to be when you grow up, Johnny?
b: I want to be a fireman. - Children grow up so fast, don't they? I can't believe my two sons are married and have children of their own already.
- I was born in Hawaii, grew up in Japan, and then returned to the U.S. to go to college.
Here's to the “inner child” in all of us!
