Here's everything you need to know about the taste of autumn - in a nutshell!

Today's LessonCATEGORY:

  • A chestnut is a smooth, brown nut that, while on the tree, is covered in a prickly shell. They're usually roasted or boiled and are eaten as snacks and used in cooking and in sweets.

Be Careful! In casual English conversation, the word “marron” is normally used only in the names of certain dishes and sweets, such as “marron glace” (マロングラッセ).

  1. I think it would be wonderful to spend a day in the country gathering chestnuts.
  2. My wife made chestnut rice (栗ご飯) last night for dinner. What a great autumn dish!
  3. Mont Blanc (モンブラン) can be made with either fresh chestnuts or store-bought chestnut puree.
  4. I stopped by the stand near the station and bought a bag of roasted chestnuts to eat on the train to Nikko.
