Explanation

  • To earn something (for example, money) is to receive it or deserve it because of your work, effort, or other action.
  • earn とは、仕事や努力、その他の行動の対価として、何か(例えば、お金など)を受け取る、あるいは、それを受けるに値する、という意味です。

examples

  1. a: How much do you think the CEO makes?
    b: I bet he earns around $500,000 a year.
  2. Many Web sites that offer free online services earn money by selling advertising space.
  3. I'm sure he'll get the promotion. He has certainly earned it.
