2006.12.13(Review of 2002.02.21 edition)
When the difference between bringing back a medal and leaving the Games empty-handed is measured in hundredths of a second, it pays to keep your eyes on the clock!
(RECORD) TIME タイム、(新)記録
- An athlete's time in a race is how many seconds, minutes, or hours it takes him or her to finish.
If an athlete's time is better (= shorter) than anyone else's in the past, we say it is a record time. - time は、選手がレースを終えるまでに何秒、何分、または何時間かかったかという記録、つまり、タイムのことです。
今までの最高タイムよりいい記録が出た場合、それを record time(新記録)と言います。
- The first-place finisher's time in the marathon was 2 hours 6 minutes and 5 seconds.
- (a short-distance runner)
My best time in the 400 meters was 49 seconds. - The speed skater finished with a time of 1 minute 48 seconds.
- She won the event in a record time of 37.24 seconds.
- The current world-record time for the men's 1500-meter run is 3:26.00.
These moments with you always seem so brief. Today, especially, it feels like we've finished in record time!
