The greetings that we include before and after every WordMaster@Work (like the one you're reading now) can be thought of as a kind of written example of today's expression. Read on and see what we mean!

開会の挨拶/閉会の挨拶

Explanation

  • Opening remarks are what we call the talk at the beginning of a conference, symposium, workshop, etc. before the main talks. For example, they may introduce the overall theme and purpose of the event or briefly outline topics to be covered in the main talks.

    Closing remarks are what we call the talk at the end of such an event after the main talks have all been given. For example, they may summarize and give final thoughts about points made during the main talks.
  • opening remarks は、会議、シンポジウム、ワークショップなどの開始時にする、導入のためのスピーチのことです。総合的なテーマや会合の目的、話し合う事柄の概略などを述べます。

    closing remarks は、会合の締めくくりのスピーチのことです。例えば、話し合われた項目についての、最終的な見解や総括が述べられます。

  2. After the president made his opening remarks, he introduced the first speaker.
