When you open up a valve to start the flow of water or oil in a pipeline, it's only a matter of time before the flow reaches its destination. With most projects, too, once planning and development begin, it's usually just a matter of time before the plans are realized.
Well, if you want to say that the “valve” has been opened on a project, then here's the idiom to use!
IN THE PIPELINE 進行中
- If something is in the pipeline, it is currently being planned or developed.
- in the pipeline は、何かが現在計画中である、あるいは、進行している、という意味です。
- (a fictional news report)
Berlitz Industries has a revolutionary new product in the pipeline, but they're keeping it a well-guarded secret until development is complete. - a: Is it true that we're going to be moving to new offices next year?
b: That's right. Plans for the move have been in the pipeline since April. - (vice president to mid-level manager)
a: So, what do you have in the pipeline this month?
b: Well, the marketing recommendations should be finished in a couple of weeks, and I've also nearly worked out a new deal with our chief supplier.
