Looking for something to keep the cold off? Well, here's a warm cup of WordMaster to sip and savor on this lovely Friday!
DISCUSS 話し合う
- To discuss something means to talk about it with another person, usually more seriously or thoughtfully than during a casual conversation.
Be Careful! Although we say “talk ABOUT something”, we do NOT say “discuss ABOUT something”. - discuss とは、人と何かについて話し合う、という意味です。普通、日常の会話よりも真剣に、あるいはよく考えて話すことをさします。
注意: talk ABOUT something と言いますが、discuss ABOUT something とは言いません。
- (a father to his son)
Sit down, son. I want to discuss something important with you. - Most of my friends don't like to discuss serious subjects. They just want to talk about movies and sports.
- We need to discuss our plans for Carol's surprise party.
- a: What did you discuss at your job interview?
b: Mostly we just talked about the other jobs I've had.
Have a full weekend, and we'll see you again on Monday. We should have lots to discuss!
