We end the week with a WordMaster that stands out like a newspaper headline or theater marquee. One can't help but take notice!
BIG DEAL 重大事
- If something is a big deal, it is important.
To say that something is “not a big deal” or “no big deal” means that it is not important or not a problem.
You can also use the expression Big deal! ironically to show that you think something is not important or that you are not impressed by it. - big deal は、重要なこと、という意味です。
not a big deal または no big deal と言うと、重要ではない、大した問題ではない、という意味になります。
何かが重要ではないと思っている、または、感心していない、ということを示すために、皮肉として Big deal!(大したものだ!)という表現を使うこともできます。
- Christmas is a big deal for a lot of Americans. So are high school graduations, birthdays, and wedding anniversaries.
- (after spilling her drink on someone's suit)
a: Oh no! I'm terribly sorry!
b: Please, don't worry about it. It's not a big deal. - a: I can't believe you didn't invite Mary to the party! Imagine how terrible she must feel!
b: Take it easy. It's no big deal. I'll invite her next time. - (young boys at school)
a: I can hold my breath for two minutes!
b: Big deal! I can hold mine for three! - a: I saved $5.00 by buying these jeans at that big outlet store outside of town.
b: Big deal! You probably spent more than that on the gas you used to drive there and back.
Now for the weekend. And that is a big deal!
