Explanation

  • The asking price is the price at which something is offered for sale.

    The selling price is the price at which something is eventually sold, which is often different from the asking price - for example, if a discount has been negotiated.

    Be Careful! When talking about items for which negotiation or bargaining does not take place, such as goods at most Japanese department stores, the meaning of selling price is similar to asking price.
  • asking price とは、何かが売りに出されている価格、つまり、提示価格のことです。

    selling price は、何かが最終的に売られたときの価格、つまり、販売価格のことです。この価格は、例えば、割引交渉が行われたりして、提示価格とは異なることが多くあります。

    注意:日本のデパートに置いてある商品のように、交渉や値引きが行われないものの価格については、selling priceasking price は、ほぼ同義になります。
