For Life
2009.08.24(Review of 2003.04.04 edition)

Greetings!

Dogs, cats, and other pets have condescended to live with humans for thousands of years. So to thank our domestic friends for their faithful companionship, we're devoting another week to them. Now that's something to bark about!

Today's Lesson
SHED (hair)   (毛が)抜ける

Explanation

  • If an animal sheds, it loses some of its fur or hair, especially when the weather gets warmer.
  • shed は、特に暖かくなってきたときに、動物の毛が抜ける、という意味です。

SHED (hair)

examples

  1. Don't let the dog into the house while he's shedding. I don't want dog hair all over the carpet.
  2. (at a pet store)
My wife is allergic to animal hair. Do you have any cats that don't shed?
  3. Shedding isn't such a problem if you brush your pet's fur once or twice a day.
  4. My dog sheds so much hair in the spring that he often gets a few bald patches on his body.
