Sometimes the economy overheats, and sometimes it can barely hold a flame.
INFLATION / DEFLATION
- Inflation is a general INCREASE in the price of goods and services over time.
Deflation is a general DECREASE in the price of goods and services over time.
Be Careful! The words “infure” (インフレ) and “defure” (デフレ) are Japanese-English.
- With only a 4% return on your investment, you're barely keeping up with inflation.
- Despite low interest rates and low unemployment, the inflation rate has remained below 3%.
- For retirees living on a fixed income, high inflation is never good news.
- Five straight years of deflation in that country have hit the housing industry hard, and median home prices continue to fall.
- I know deflation is supposed to be bad for the overall economy, but it's sure nice being able to buy more for less!
See you again tomorrow!
