Explanation

  • The opening of an event, business, building, etc., is the act of starting something or becoming open for the first time.

    Be Careful! The phrase “new open” (ニューオープン) is Japanese-English and is NOT used to mean opening.
  • opening とは、イベントやビジネス、建物などの営業を開始すること、あるいは、初めて公開することを意味します。

    注意: new open (ニューオープン)という言葉は和製英語で、opening の意味では使いません。

  1. The Olympic Opening Ceremony will be broadcast live throughout the world. It's one of the world's great spectacles (= very impressive events).
  2. We're having a little party for employees and their families to celebrate the opening of our new Ginza office.
  3. (radio advertisement)
    Announcing the grand opening of our newest and biggest store!
  4. People have been waiting in line since yesterday to get tickets for the opening night of Max Berlitz' new musical.
  5. (employee at cable TV company)
    We've received over 10,000 orders for new cable service to begin in time for the opening day of the Olympics.
