Narrowing this "great divide" is one of the defining challenges of our time.
WEALTHY / POOR 裕福な/貧しい、乏しい
- To be wealthy is to be rich.
To be poor (adjective) is to have very little money. It's the opposite of rich.
A place or group of people are poor IN something - for example, poor in resources or infrastructure - if they don't have much of it.
We can sometimes combine poor with a noun to make expressions such as "resource-poor" and "cash-poor".
Be Careful! To make the opposite expression, we normally use "rich", not "wealthy"; for example, "resource-rich". - wealthy
